$55 a day. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but that’s what we need every day for every dog in our care. Most of that money goes to the care and essentials they require while they’re with GAWS, but it also helps us find a forever home for each of our dogs.
At GAWS, we take the adoption process pretty seriously. We can’t just “swipe right” on an app to find a new family for our pups – there are lots of different factors to consider. Do mum and dad work from home for daytime walks and cuddles on tap? Are there any noisy toddlers running around that might be a bit too much for older dogs to handle? Our team will comb through all the details to make sure our furry friends find their perfect match.
Scout is one of the thousands of dogs who has benefited from this careful matchmaking process – so how is he getting on with his new family?
On the day of my meet-and-greet, a nice family came into the play yard with me and I got LOTS of attention. The lady from GAWS told them all about me, and then they asked if I wanted to come home with them – did I ever!
Walking into my new house was a bit weird at first, but I am starting to settle in. I have all my favourite toys here and a nice big bed set up in Mum and Dad’s walk-in wardrobe, so I can still see them through the door (I like sneaking into their bed sometimes too).

Luckily there are no other dogs or little kids here – I’m getting old now so that’s all a bit too much for me. All up there are five adults in the house, so there is always someone around to play basketball with me or take me for a walk. We even went to the beach the other day and I got to swim in the ocean!
Sometimes my new life still feels a little bit strange, but Mum and Dad say I’m starting to come out of my shell. One thing’s for sure, I’m really happy to be here in my new home. My forever home.
