Scout's Story - Part 4

By now, you know that GAWS provides lots of different support services for stray and surrendered animals. Many of these services are provided at our shelter, but there’s an important one that happens in the homes of our amazing volunteers – foster care.

Many of these services are provided at our shelter, but there’s an important one that happens in the homes of our amazing volunteers – foster care.

Dogs may be at the GAWS shelter for three or four weeks while they wait to be adopted, so foster care helps break up their stay and minimise the stress of the shelter environment. Donations to the GAWS Winter Appeal will help us cover the costs of foster care so these dogs can enjoy a nice warm home with some friendly humans for company – just like Scout did.

"As the days pass, I’m starting to find life a bit tough in the shelter.

I bark a lot to tell the humans I am stressed and don’t really want to be stuck in my pen anymore. They must be able to tell, because the next thing I know one of the nice ladies is taking me home.

For the first time in weeks, I have a nice warm place to stay and some company at night. It’s the best! I love my early morning walks with Kris, my foster mum, and have found a comfy spot on the couch for naps. While I’m at Kris’ place, she teaches me lots of new stuff like toilet training and even some manners – I feel like a whole new pup!

One day, I’m at the shelter with Kris when she gets very excited and tells me I have a meet-and-greet tomorrow. I don’t exactly know what that is, but I’m about to find out…

Help dogs like Scout move into foster care

We can’t offer foster care without our foster parents like Kris, and we can’t do it without you either! By donating to the GAWS Winter Appeal, you’ll be helping us cover the cost of $55 per day, per dog that keeps this key service running.
