Dog Tales - ODIN

This year, we are sharing the real stories of dogs who have come into the care of GAWS to show how your donations to our Winter Appeal support our cause.

"Hello, I'm Odin.

I’m a huge, 42 kilo, Great Dane cross Saint Bernard who arrived at GAWS in poor medical condition eight months ago.

I was so nervous when I came to GAWS.  I came in with a friend - she was rehomed pretty quickly, but GAWS wanted to keep me in care for a bit longer.

I arrived with rotten teeth, itchy skin, a previously ruptured ACL and a bunch of warts and lumps.

And boy oh boy have I had the works at GAWS. They really do care about each individual animal as they prepare us for our forever homes.

I have had some operations to help with some of the things that were bothering me. I was de-sexed. I have had multiple ear infections and have been treated with medicine to make them go away.

I have a skin condition where I feel itchy and my fur falls out. GAWS gives me special medicine, skin ointments and baths to help relieve this condition.

I am allergic to some foods, so GAWS serves me special anallergenic food to eat.

I had some lumps and warts removed, thankfully they were nothing nasty

I had a mini-stroke, but with GAWS’ help I’ve recovered well.

I’ve had vaccinations, worming and flea treatments.

Luckily I have not had to stay in the shelter for the duration of my treatment thanks to the GAWS foster care program. I haven’t been lonely either as I have had a foster sister to help build my confidence.

I have been given the best opportunity to thrive, thanks to GAWS."

Stay tuned for more GAWS Dog Tales.
