Dog Tales - JINX

This year, we are sharing the real stories of dogs who have come into the care of GAWS to show how your donations to our Winter Appeal support our cause.

"Hi, my name is Jinx.

I’m a whippet puppy who has had a bit of a tough start to life. I broke my leg when I was very young and had a cast, but unfortunately while it was meant to be healing, my leg became even more painful.

There were some sores on it and I ended up with an infection. I heard the people talk about amputation, but I didn’t know what that meant.

The next thing I knew, I was dropped off at a place called GAWS. I am not sure why I ended up here, but the people are really nice and they love looking after me. There are some vets here who took all the pain away for me. I went to sleep, and when I woke up I only had three legs. It felt a bit funny at first but I’m used to it now. I stayed in the vet clinic for a few days and was provided with all the things I needed to feel comfortable and healthy.

It’s been a few weeks since my surgery, and I am doing perfectly. I actually feel great and I am getting around fine!

The vets also gave me some worm and flea treatment and vaccinations, and they performed a procedure so I can’t have puppies.

There are some special people at GAWS who work with dogs all day. They assessed me and my behaviour – by all reports I passed with flying colors.

There’s a nice lady who is providing me with extra TLC at her home, she's my foster mum. She cares for me, feeds me and makes sure I am comfortable.  I feel a bit sad when she’s not around, because I really trust her and she makes me feel so loved. I cry a bit when I’m separated from her, but I’m getting better at being on my own. I hope I feel this much love in my forever home when it's time for me to graduate.

I am so happy I was given a second chance. I am still the same, happy, cute pup - just extra special with three legs."

Can you help?

Jinx’s medical and care has so far cost GAWS more than $2500.

Can you help puppies like Jinx get their second chance at a happy, healthy life?
