Senior & Special Needs Cats

SENIOR & SPECIAL NEEDS CATS

At the Geelong Animal Welfare, we have an assortment of cats waiting for their forever homes – tabbies, gingers, short-haired, long-haired, young, young-at-heart, easy-going and some who need a little extra TLC.

People tend to be drawn to kittens (we get it, they are cute!), but adult cats and special needs cats have a lot to offer too and could fit purr-fectly into your lifestyle.

We’ve featured some senior and special needs felines who are currently at GAWS waiting for adoption.

SENIOR CATS:

These older cats, who are just as loving and loyal as the young ones, would love to find a place they can call home.

The adoption fee for a senior cat (over 7 years old) is $50.

Seniors for seniors – anyone who holds a senior card is eligible to adopt a senior cat free of charge (or by donation).

Like all cat adoptions, there is an application process involved to adopt the seniors to ensure the best match.

Spook

ID: 55837

Domestic short hair

Male

11 yrs

I may be in my senior years but I'm full of energy and I love to explore. I'm a friendly cat and I don't mind the company of others but I can be quite independent too. I may start off shy but once I get to know my human I can be a total smooch. I'm looking for a home that can offer me some outside time and would prefer no small children.

I would love a nice quiet home. I’d love a special sunny place by a window to look out. I would be happy if I was the only pet in my new home.

Domestic Medium Hair

Likes all sidekicks, I'm just plain good company. I like attention, and I also like my solitude. I don't go looking for trouble but I'm no scaredy-cat, either. If you are looking for a steady companion, I’m your cat. Indoors only please.

MEDICAL: Ongoing pentosan injections for osteoarthritis, hairball diet recommended.

ID: 12241

Domestic long hair

Female

9 yrs

I'm a small, senior lady but don't be fooled by my size or age, I'm big in sass and young at heart. I don't play much, I'd rather just curl up and sleep somewhere nice and warm. Perhaps I could share your bed or even just a spot on the couch. I’m an indoor cat and would prefer to be the only pet in my new home.

Leo's Gotcha Day

Seven year old ginger, Leo, had been with GAWS for almost a year. Last month, he found his forever home. His new family saw something special in the senior ginger and we are so happy he is home. Photo: Simon, Kim and their daughter Mimi with Leo.

Matilda

ID:37287

Domestic short hair

Female

6yrs

I'm a cat who does everything in a big way. I not only like to be in the middle of things - I like to lead the parade. I'm an adventurous cat, but I'll still make plenty of time to show you my affectionate side. I need to stay indoors and I’d prefer no little kids.

MEDICAL: Osteoarthritis, currently weight loss diet.

Echo

ID: 56599

Domestic short hair

Female

2 yrs

I’m quite a shy cat and a little nervous so I would really like a quiet home with no other cats. I enjoy chin scratches, and if you’re patient with me I will become a great companion and lapcat.

Medical: Currently on a weight loss diet

Pheonix

ID:56865

Domestic short hair

Male

6 yrs

I'm a beautiful boy with so much love to give. I'm very confident in saying hello and coming up for pats. I’m known to be a purring machine. I may be big but don't you worry I still get around really well. I would prefer a home without dogs and hope there’s a spot for me in your bed.

MEDICAL: Grade 2 Heart murmur, strict diet for weight loss.
