'Desex July' is an amazing initiative supported and sponsored by Geelong Animal Welfare Society and City of Greater Geelong that enables you to be a responsible pet owner for an affordable price.
Desexing your pet is a surgical procedure that prevents them from being able to reproduce. For males it is called “castration” and female pets as “spaying. We perform the desexing procedure at GAWS daily and your pet should only be at the clinic for the day.
We recommend desexing your pet between 4 and 6 months, however, your pet is never too old to be desexed!
The benefits to desexing your pet:
- Prevention of unwanted litters, which can be very costly and may add to the already overwhelming number of stray animals we treat every year
- Stopping the heat cycle in females
- Decreasing aggression towards humans and other animals, especially in males
- Being less prone to wander
