After 250 days in GAWS’ care, eyelid surgery, a brief adoption stint, vaccinations, flea & worm treatments, and thousands of pats from the GAWS staff and volunteers, Samson has finally found his forever home!
The big, beautiful, Bull Arab x Alaskan Malamute came to GAWS in July 2022. He was aloof to begin with but quickly formed special bonds with staff and volunteers.
Samson became a favourite amongst our GAWS community. His status gained much interest over the months and people have been cheering him on to find his forever home.

One supporter keeping an eye on him was his future new owner Gary. After losing a beloved dog, Gary wasn’t sure he was ready for another but said it felt unnatural eating a whole meal without passing food under the table to a dog, so decided to foster Samson to see how they got along.
“I started looking for an older artic dog and spotted Samson on the GAWS website. I watched him remain on there for over a month, and decided to give him a chance. Within 24 hours of bringing him home, we decided to adopt each other,” Gary said.
Samson has settled in well into his forever home. Here’s an update from Gary:
“Samson has settled extremely well. He spent the first two nights sleeping on the bed, but he now spends most of the night curled up on the couch. He's happy to doze in the back yard while I tinker in the shed, or curl up on the couch next to me while I watch TV.
Samson is very calm and relaxed, most of the time, and loves being around people. He makes furrends with everyone he meets and he thinks people exist just to give him pats and cuddles. And that smile ...... he has an ear-to-ear smile all the time, even when he sleeps.
Samson loves doing all the things a dog his age do. He loves going for a walk twice a day, making sure no tree goes unmarked. Samson is a self-appointed Quality Control Officer, he absolutely loves his food and has to try everything. His favourite thing, by far is getting pats and belly rubs. If his puppy dog eyes don't get your attention, he'll bang on things with a wagging tail, like a drum. If that doesn't work, he'll nudge you with his muzzle. Whatever it takes. And how could you resist that face?”
We are so happy Samson has found his happily ever after with you Gary!
