We understand that the idea of surrendering a pet is very confronting and a topic that leads to strong opinions and often judgments, however there are so many circumstances where surrendering a pet is the only option.
The decision to give up a pet is a very emotional one, and one that most of us would hope never to be in the position to have to make. Unfortunately, for some this is not the case. There are many reasons why a pet may need to be surrendered to a service like GAWS. There could be a change in living situation, a deterioration of physical or mental health, the need to enter a care facility that is unable to allow pets, problems arising with other pets in the home or more simply, an inability to provide adequate care for the animal either financially or emotionally any longer.

At GAWS we feel privileged to be in a position to offer a safe and responsible option if someone has found they are unable to care for their pet anymore.
We would like our community to know that we are here to help. If there are any steps we can help people to take before getting to the point of surrendering their pet, we will always do our best. We have a team of compassionate professionals that may have the knowledge, resources or connections to help. Now, more than ever, we need to lead with kindness and empathy.
