Purr It Forward with your pet and FUNDRAISE to help out the next cat that comes through our doors!

Over the years we have loved watching our precious felines find their furrever homes, living wonderful and happy lives with their new families. Now it’s our GAWS Graduates turn to Purr It Forward and fundraise to help provide care for their friends residing in the shelter waiting to be adopted.

We are inviting all cat owners, especially those who have adopted through GAWS over the years, to set up a fundraising page under their cat’s name/photo and aim to raise $250 for GAWS. We want to give our GAWS Graduates the chance to offer our current residents the same opportunities they were given, and your fundraising will be essential to help support our mission and make a difference for cats in need.

On average, it costs around $55 per day to support one cat in the shelter

Covering the cost of essentials includes purchasing food, veterinary care, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, possible foster care stay and the list goes on and on! This can easily add up to over $1,500 per month for just one cat and varies greatly for each resident depending on their length of stay in the shelter.

How can I Purr It Forward?

  • Set up a fundraising page for your cat and ain to raise $250
  • Ask your friends (both human and four-legged) to donate to your page
  • Spread the word on social media #catfluencer #purritforward

The story of Astrid, a stray kitten

Astrid arrived at GAWS with a severe eye condition caused by a type of cat flu. She was also underweight, dehydrated, and covered in fleas. The shelter staff immediately provided her with a warm bed, food, and round-the-clock care. GAWS' vet clinic went to work on her treatment plan, which included antibiotics, eye drops, fluid therapy, syringe feeding, flea and worming.

After two weeks of dedicated care, Astrid was cleared to go into foster care. She returned to GAWS to be de-sexed, then received extra TLC as she recovered in foster care. Finally, as of this week, our dear Astrid is ready to find her forever home and is available for adoption. Her journey shows the many facets of GAWS - from emergency treatment to foster care to adoptions.

Help us fundraise to continue providing essential care for cats like Astrid

However, the cost of her treatment so far has added up to more than $3000. As a part of our Autumn campaign, we are asking you to Purr It Forward to save cats like Astrid. By creating a fundraising page under your cat's name, you can help raise $250 for GAWS to continue providing essential care to animals like Astrid.

Dr Kabuki presented to GAWS as a stray in 2022

GAWS has cared for Dr Kabuki over the past six months and he has experienced the many specialist areas of GAWS including lost cats, adoptions, our vet clinic and foster program. Dr Kabuki has had dental surgery, treatment for a blocked tear duct, medication for his excessive grooming behaviour as well as his general vaccinations, flea and worm treatments.

The cost of Dr Kabuki’s treatments and care has been covered by GAWS – and the costs have added up! We need your help to continue to treat and care for cats like Dr Kabuki... “because every life is precious”.

If you have a social media #catfluencer we’re calling on you to spread the word using hashtag #purritforward this Autumn.

We know that our community of cat owners has a particular love for their pets, and we want to enable you to share that love with other cats who have not been as fortunate. So Purr It Forward this Autumn for the next furry friend to come through our doors.
