Ensuring your love for animals lives on

Leaving a gift to GAWS in your will is your way of making a real difference to the lives of animals that come into our care each year.

Our Vision is:

Geelong Animal Welfare Society serves Geelong and surrounding areas to uphold and promote the welfare and rights of companion animals by caring for and rehoming lost and relinquished animals, providing support services to the community and education in responsible pet ownership.

GAWS animal shelter programs rely one hundred percent on funding from adoption fees, community donations, memberships, fundraising and bequests. Without this support, the care and rehoming services provided for over two thousand animals each year would not be possible.

Thank you for considering a bequest to GAWS in your will. Our animal shelter receives no government funding and relies on the generous support of the community to deliver this vital work. We thank all those who make this possible, and who share in our commitment to give animals a second chance ‘because every life is precious.’

Bequest Animal Program

What would happen to your pet if you could no longer care for it?

We at GAWS understand how distressing it would be for you if you thought that your beloved pets would not be cared for if you were no longer there or able to look after them. To provide peace of mind and a lifelong solution we have established the GAWS Bequest Animal Program.

GAWS has been operating for over 50 years, we are a not for profit, community-based organisation providing best practice animal care, community education and animal rehoming programs.

Our Vision is:

  • To be leaders in animal welfare by providing the necessary care, veterinary services or rehabilitation needed to successfully rehome lost or unwanted dogs and cats.
  • To support the communities in which we operate with programs and resources which promote responsible pet ownership and the joys of owning a pet.

The Bequest Animal Program invites owners to register their pet(s) and make provision in their will for the lifelong care of their animal.

How does it work?

Should you no longer be able to care for your pet, GAWS becomes the legal guardian and assumes all responsibility for the care and wellbeing of your pet for the remainder of its life.

Your pet will be resettled in a carefully selected suitable permanent foster home with an approved carer, who will provide a loving environment and all the necessary care. Your pet legacy covers all veterinary treatment for the remainder of your pet’s life.

How do I register?

Registration for the program involves completing a registration form and confirmation of a minimum bequest of $5000* per animal in your will to GAWS.

The registration form lists all the information GAWS needs to enable us to find the right forever home for your pet. We will continue to monitor the care of your pet through regular contact with the permanent carer and annual visits.

Download the brochure and registration form here or contact GAWS on 03 5248 2091.

We encourage Bequest Animal Program registrants to inform their executor/s, family and friends of their intentions for their animals

From the moment your pet arrives at GAWS your bequest pays for the ongoing veterinary care of your pet for the remainder of its life and all their needs will be lovingly met. Once your pet has been re-homed all veterinary care, medication, vaccinations and prescription food (if needed) will be provided by GAWS at no charge to the new carer.
